Veterinary Doctor (Universidad Nacional de Colombia), with MSc in Veterinary Microbiology (Royal Veterinary College, University of London, UK) and PhD (University of Maryland, College Park, USA.), with experience in in vivo and in vitro studies of viral agents under biosafety level 2 and 3 conditions.
Associate Professor at the FMVZ of the National University of Colombia, with more than 25 years of experience in teaching and research in the area of virology, studying mainly agents that affect domestic and wild animals of importance in animal health with potential impact on human health. Coordinator of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Virology of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry of the National University and leader of the research group in Microbiology and Epidemiology. Main focus of research and experience related to viral diseases, including those of zoonotic importance and/or with pandemic potential, with an approach under the perspective of ONE HEALTH.
Recipient of several awards and distinctions including ODA-British Council-UK and Fulbright Fellowship, USA, Golden Key International Honor Society, Meritorious Integral Teaching, Meritorious Research and Academic Merit Medal of the National University of Colombia and recognition as Senior Researcher of Minciencias.
Currently member of the American Association (ASV) and Colombian Association of Virology, UKRI International Peer Review College (UK), Colombian Academy of Veterinary Sciences and review committees including specialized Journals such as Frontiers in Microbiology, Viruses and Vaccine, peer reviewer of Minciencias and Fulbright scholarship program, among others.
