Mark Allen will give a talk on "Critical Points in Cage-Free Management" on the morning of Wednesday, October 18 in the stance room at the LPN Congress & Expo 2023.
Cage-free management is a system of egg production in which hens have access to outdoor areas and are allowed to move freely within an indoor facility. This approach is increasingly popular with consumers and egg producers as it is considered a more humane and sustainable alternative to traditional cage systems.
However, for cage-free management to be effective, attention needs to be paid to several critical points. First, it is essential to provide adequate space for the hens, both inside the indoor facility and outside. The birds must have enough space to move around and perform natural behaviors, such as pecking and exploring.
In addition, it is important to ensure proper hygiene and cleanliness of the facility. This includes disease and parasite control, proper disposal of waste, and regular cleaning of feeding and roosting areas.
Another critical point in cage-free management is feeding and water supply. It is important to provide a balanced diet and ensure that the hens have access to clean, fresh water at all times.
Finally, attention needs to be paid to animal welfare and providing as natural an environment as possible. This may include providing materials such as straw or wood for the birds to peck and explore, and eliminating practices such as beak trimming, which can cause pain and stress to the hens.
In summary, cage-free management is an increasingly popular alternative to traditional cage systems in egg production. However, for this approach to be effective, attention needs to be paid to several critical points, including the provision of adequate space, hygiene and cleanliness, feed and water supply, and animal welfare. By doing so, producers can provide high quality eggs in a more humane and sustainable manner
Mr. Anderson Herbet will give a talk on "Impact of Major Global Changes on Egg Production and Export" on the morning of Wednesday, October 18 in the stance room of the LPN Congress & Expo 2023.
In recent decades, we have witnessed a series of major global changes that have had a significant impact on the production and export of eggs. These changes have occurred in a variety of areas, from technological and economic to political and social, and have significantly transformed the way this important food is produced and marketed.
One of the most notable changes has been the increase in demand for eggs globally. In many countries, eggs have become an important source of protein and nutrients that are affordable and accessible to large segments of the population, leading to an increase in egg production worldwide.
In addition, growing concern for animal welfare and food quality has driven increased investment in technology and improvements in production practices, leading to greater efficiency and sustainability in the egg production process.
On the other hand, globalization has had a major impact on egg production and exports. The opening of markets and the elimination of trade barriers has allowed greater competition among producers in different countries, which has led to greater specialization and the consolidation of large companies in the poultry sector. In addition, the expansion of distribution channels has allowed eggs to reach increasingly distant markets, which has boosted the growth of egg exports.
However, there are also challenges associated with these changes. Climate change and the scarcity of natural resources are raising concerns about the long-term sustainability of egg production, while pressure from consumers and animal advocacy groups is driving changes in production practices that may generate additional costs for producers. Moreover, the emergence of new poultry diseases and the implementation of increasingly stringent sanitary measures may affect egg production and exports.
In summary, major global changes have important implications for egg production and export. While these changes have allowed for increased production and greater feed accessibility, they have also created significant challenges that must be addressed to ensure the sustainability and quality of egg production in the future.
