Graduated in Chemistry from the National University of Colombia (1977) and Master and Doctorate in Animal Nutrition, University of Florida, 1982 and 1987, respectively.
Between 1987-1994 he worked as Poultry Nutrition Manager for the Animal Nutrition Division of Cargill Incorporated, Minneapolis, Minnesota. During his time working with Cargill, he provided nutrition services, formulation, training of formulators and research projects for the plants in Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, Honduras, and Poland.
Between 1994-2009 he was in charge of the management of Nutritional Services and Quality Assurance for the Latin American Division of Continental Grain Company. He actively provided in technical support for Dupont’s Optimum high-oil corn project and trained formulators in the Andean Pact countries and several Caribbean countries where Continental had a business.
Since 2009 he is an independent consultant as Nelson Ruiz Nutrition, LLC. He is the author and co-author of 26 articles in indexed journals, 45 articles, and summaries on issues of nutrition and quality assurance. He is a member of the American Poultry Association and the World Association.
