Doctorate from the University of California. He began his career as a professor at the University of Guelph of Canada (1986). And from this date to the present he is a professor at the University of Auburn that in 2010 granted him the title of Professor Emeritus.
His main lines of research are the influence of nutrition and management on the performance and quality of poultry meat for further processing and preparation for the consumer; post-hatching survival and performance of broilers according to the influence of the flock, the strain and the characteristics of the egg; nutrition, food additives and stress prior to slaughter in the carcass; management and nutrition methods to omit antimicrobial feeding and animal welfare.
He has written numerous publications, his work has been recognized with the American Feed Industry Poultry Nutrition Research Award and he has been the president of the Poultry Science Association (2000).
